What we learned

We found that just like we thought, the food covered and in the fridge stayed freshest. We thought the uncovered, out of the fridge plate would be the worst. Instead, the food that was the worst was out of the fridge and covered. Mama reminded Justin what we saw on the inside of the plastic wrapped plate in the fridge on the second day (water droplets). Justin said that the covered food left out of the fridge turned out "grossest" because the plastic cover kept the water in, and the mold needs water to grow. We talked a little about evaporation.

We talked about how the mold may have gotten inside the plastic wrap to begin growing. Mama suggested either the plastic wrap wasn't sealed well or had holes in it so the mold got in that way, or the mold was already on the food before the experiment. Justin liked the holes-in-plastic theory best, but both Mama and Daddy suggested that the mold was already living on the food in a very small form which doesn't hurt us when we eat it. We explained how the mold could make us sick if we ate the food once the mold grew as much as it did in our experiment.
